Icelandic footballer Rúrik Gíslason retires from international football
Former Iceland international footballer Rúrik Gíslason has announced his retirement from international football.
The 36-year-old defender made his debut for Iceland in 2008 and went on to make 69 appearances for his country, scoring three goals.
Gíslason was a key member of the Iceland squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2016 European Championship in France.
He also played in two FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns, in 2014 and 2018.
Gíslason's retirement brings an end to a successful international career.
